GALVESTON — Frank R. Mittica, 91, Kokomo, went home to be with the Lord at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, at Blair Ridge Health Campus, Peru.

He was born Sept. 11, 1926, in Logansport, to Rocco and Maria Coluccio Mittica. He married Phyllis “Jean” Owens on July 26, 1947, in Logansport. She preceded him in death March 27, 2008.

Frank graduated from Logansport High School in 1944. He joined the Navy after high school to serve his country. He retired from Delco Electronics as an electrician with 20 years service.

Frank was a member of VFW Post 1152, Kokomo, and American Legion Post 418, Walton. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Warsaw. After retirement he volunteered for the American Red Cross and was awarded Volunteer of the Year one year. He also served on the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity.

Frank was a great husband, father and grandfather. He loved helping people.

Surviving family include his children, Pam and Rick Day, Peru, and James F. Mittica, Warsaw. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Todd Stevens, Rocco (Lisa) Valadez, Nicholas (Mindi) Valadez, Ashley (Jason) Lemler and Zach (Ashley) Sainer; and his great-grandchildren: Lily, Gabe, Rafe, Samuel, Christopher, Wyatt, Rylan, Kloe, Peyton, Jay and Bailey. Surviving siblings include two sisters, Mary Melton, Rochester, and Angie Schroeder, Logansport; and one brother, Dominic Mittica, Logansport. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean; sister, Josephine Graybeal; and brother, Nicholas Mittica.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at St. Charles Catholic Church, 58 W. Fifth Street, Peru, with Father Adam Mauman officiating. Burial will follow in Galveston Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, at Murray Weaver Funeral Home, Galveston.
