Warriors, Eagles Play To Draw In Boys Soccer Match

CULVER – Chris Pena scored a pair of first-half goals for Wawasee  on Wednesday in its 2-2 draw at Culver Academies in a non-conference boys soccer match.

Both goals were assisted by Ryan Edington.

Wawasee coach Jordan Sharp said his team played well and nearly won against one of Indiana’s better programs.

“It was a physical and tough game,” Sharp said. “We were tough and almost had the third goal to obtain victory.”

The Wawasee junior varsity dropped its match 1-0 to the host Eagles.

Now 3-3-1, Wawasee will host Huntington North at 11 a.m. Saurday at Warrior Field.



Lady Eagles Beat Wawasee


SYRACUSE – Coach Steve Coverstone said his Wawasee girls golf team played its best nine-hole round of the season Wednesday in a 167-187 loss to Culver Academies.

Belle Brunner led Wawasee with a 44 and Ava Harker had a 46. Jadison Rostochak had a pair of triple bogeys and still mananged a 47, and Valerie Haessig shot a 50 at Maxwelton Golf Club.

“I’m very proud of the girls. They had their best score of the year against a very good team,” Coverstone said. “Belle was her usual dependable self, and Ava and Valerie had career-best scores.”

Reese Wilson had a 39 for medalist honors to lead the Lady Eagles.

Wawasee (8-5) will host Goshen in a Northern Lakes Conference dual today at Maxwelton.

Minutemen Tame Tigers

DUNLAP – Warsaw’s Tedros Berelsman scored off a corner kick  in the second half for the Tigers’ lone goal in a 5-1 loss at Concord in a Northern Lakes Conference boys soccer match Wednesday.

The Tiger junior varsity took a 3-0 win over the Minutemen. Adam Brown had a pair goals, with one assisted by Jose Lars. The third goal was scored b y Riley Brennan with an assist to Elian Mejia.

Now 3-3-1 overall (0-2 in the conference), Warsaw is back at it today, playing Fort Wayne Bishop Luers at the Carroll tournament in Huntertown.



HN Vikings Best Squires

NORTH MANCHESTER – Injuries forced a lineup change for Manchester on Wednesday. The revamped order didn’t make much difference as visiting Huntington North claimed a 5-0 win in a non-conference boys tennis match.

Two matches went three sets. Manchester’s No. 1 doubles team of Logan Parrett and Luke Donathan won their first set before falling 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 to Spencer Atkinson and Clark Kitchen. Parker Wagoner won the middle set in a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 loss to Noah Zahn at No. 2 singles.

“We played with some effort, but our focus, mental toughness, and execution was not at a level of winning tennis,” said coach Eric Screeton. “It was a tough night for our squad, but we will respond.”

Manchester (3-3) will play in the West Noble Invitational in Ligonier on Saturday.

PLYMOUTH – Triton dropped a non-conference boys tennis match 5-0 to Marshall County rival Plymouth Wednesday evening.

The Trojans, now 4-4, will travel to South Whitley for a non-conference match with Whitko today.

AKRON – Garrett Feldman won at No. 3 singles for Tippecanoe Valley’s boys tennis team Wednesday in a 4-1 non-conference loss to Knox.

Feldman overcame a rough start to win in a third-set points tiebreaker 0-6, 6-2, 10-8 over Zac Eby. Payton Mills and Dakota Parker lost a similar tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles 3-6, 6-4, 7-10 to Ethan Cooper and Clint Stacy.

The Vikings will play their third match in as many days today, taking on LaVille.
