Singles Meeting Friends

A muggy Wednesday evening brought 14 to the Aug. 16 meeting.

Donald was back from Wisconsin. Rita was back from her Chicago trip. Eldon was back from his trip to Williamstown, Ky., to see the Ark Encounter and other places in the area.

Donna brought in an article on the legalization of cannabiol after 80 years being illegal. The article stated it is not addictive. It is used for pain relief and other medical conditions. It is a relative to the marijuana plant but does not have the ill effects.

Discussions ensued about drug addiction and their affects on people's lives.

Singles looking for something to do and a way to meet new friends are welcome to the group, which meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays in the upstairs deli at Martin's Super Market.

Pierceton Senior Citizens Club

PIERCETON — Pierceton Senior Citizens Club met May 15, June 19 and July 17.

At the May meeting, members and guests heard from Sara Wilcox about what papers to keep in a safe place for emergency access and how to cut down on unnecessary piles of paper. Members introduced themselves to two visitors and roll call response was a favorite flower. John led the pledge and offered a blessing.  Betty Rose read a poem about mothers after Carolyn's treasurer's report. Jane closed the meeting by playing the piano and singing “In the Garden.”

In June, three college students shared their experiences in Germany, Israel and Thailand. They answered questions from members about clothes, food and the people. Members enjoyed the carry-in dinner and conversation  with friends.

In July, since they were celebrating birthdays, John, Asenath and Elaine led other members and one guest to dinner. After dinner, Carolyn read the treasurer's report. Funds are slim, so the seniors are thankful to Paragon Medical for its yearly donation. Betty Rose read “If Jesus came to your house.”

John quizzed members about hummingbirds. Members learned that hummingbirds weigh as much as a nickel, their eggs are the size of a jelly bean, their wings rotate in all directions, they hover longer than any other bird, they can somersault, their heart beats at 1,200 beats per minute, they migrate and they don't return to a flower they have previously fed from.

John G. relayed a message from the local VFW, which will provide dinner for members and guests in August. The ?VFW will join the group for dinner at 6 p.m. Monday. All members and other seniors in the Pierceton area are invited.
