Suspect In Thefts Of Vehicles Arrested After Police Chase

A Syracuse man was arrested after leading police on a chase through Warsaw Wednesday.

Steve A. Waid Jr., 41, of 10080 N. Turkey Creek Road, #10, Syracuse, was a suspect in a week-long investigation by law enforcement. He allegedly was involved in the theft of seven vehicles in Kosciusko, Noble and Whitley counties. The three counties participated in the location and apprehension of Waid.

Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department detectives, Kosciusko County Drug Task Force and the patrol division apprehended Waid Wednesday after a pursuit of a stolen vehicle that Waid was driving at about 6 a.m.

Detectives learned that Waid was possibly armed and traveling in the Warsaw area in a stolen 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. When detectives located Waid and attempted to take him into custody, Waid fled through downtown Warsaw. The pursuit ended in the Hodges addition after Waid crashed into a fence and was taken into custody.

Waid was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital for medical clearance and then to the Kosciusko County Jail.

Waid was charged with three counts of auto theft, theft and fleeing/resisting law enforcement. Waid is also being held on warrants from Whitley County and Kosciusko County.

KCSD was assisted by Winona Lake Police Department, Warsaw Police Department and Lutheran EMS during the pursuit.
