Lady Tigers Win Volleyball Opener Over Leo

Kacy Bragg had 13 digs, two aces and three kills, with Alexie Day adding nine kills to lead Warsaw to a 25-21, 21-25, 27-25, 25-22 win over Leo in the Lady Tigers volleyball season opener at the Tiger Den Tuesday evening.

Freshman Betty Barnett added three aces and six blocks for the Lady Tigers, and Erin Peugh had 13 digs in the match.

Warsaw will host Huntington North at about 7:15 p.m. Thursday.



LCA Trips Whitko

SOUTH WHITLEY – Heather Plastow had 11 digs and an ace, and Baylee Wiley added five digs and two kills for Lakeland Christian in its 25-21, 25-23, 25-17 victory at Whitko Tuesday night.

Kyla Kohler had seven assists, six kills, two aces and a block for the Lady Cougars, and Carlie Wise added five digs, two kills, an ace and a block in the match for LCA.

Emalee Duggins had 10 kills for Whitko. Haley Howard had 12 digs and  two aces, with Kristina Slater adding 13 digs.

Lakeland Christian (1-1) will play at LaCrosse Friday evening. Whitko (0-1) will play at Columbia City on Thursday.



Lady Squires Sweep

PERU – Sydney Day had six kills, and Kara Kline added five kills in Manchester’s season-opening 25-23, 25-13, 25-12 win over Three Rivers Conference foe Peru Tuesday.

Kendra Auler and Kline had two aces each, and Auler had 10 of the Lady Squires’ 15 assists in the match.

Manchester will play in the Elwood Invitational on Saturday.



Triton Tennis Edges John Glenn

BOURBON – Triton had wins from both doubles teams in its 3-2 season-opening win over visiting John Glenn in a non-conference boys tennis match Tuesday.

Keygan Mosier and Chase Butler won the deciding match at No. 1 doubles, taking a come-from-behind 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 win over the Falcons’ Alex Kruk and Matt Moore. Tyler Heckaman and Jared Bules won in straight sets at No. 2 doubles, and Carter Kuntz won handily at No. 1 singles for the Trojans.

Glenn won two of the three junior varsity matches.

Triton will host Knox today in a Hoosier North Athletic Conference match.



Valley Tennis Swept

BREMEN – Tippecanoe Valley began its boys tennis season with a 5-0 loss at Bremen Tuesday.

Valley had its strongest showing in singles play. Seth Hoffman narrowly lost the first set before falling 7-5, 6-2 to Carter Filchak at No. 1 singles. After dropping his first set, Eric Wright came back to win the second set, then lost 6-1, 5-7, 6-3 to Mark Bahr.

Payton Mills dropped a first-set tiebreaker in his loss at No. 3 singles.

Valley travels to North Judson for a non-conference match Thursday.



Wawasee Wins Twice

SYRACUSE – Jadison Rostochak posted a 47 and Lesley Tayagua shot a 49 to lead Wawasee to a pair of girls golf wins at Maxwelton Golf Club Tuesday. The Lady Warriors’ score of 197 was better than Mishawaka Marian’s 206 and West Noble’s 221.

Zoe White posted a 50 and Belle Brunner a 51 for the Lady Warriors. Ava Harker added a 61.

Wawasee (4-1) will host Westview Thursday at Maxwelton.



Warriors Take Opener

SYRACUSE – Sophomore Chris Pena scored four goals in Wawasee’s 6-0 season-opening boys soccer win over Westview on the new artificial turf at Warrior Field Tuesday night.

Blayne Faught and Ethan Carey added a goal each for Wawasee.

The junior varsity match ended in a 1-1 draw. Freshman Jace Mishler scored the Wawasee goal.

The Warriors will play at South Bend Riley on Thursday.



Whitko Golf Falls

NORTH MANCHESTER – Bailey Wright posted a 49 for Whitko in its 190-243 loss to Northfield in a Three Rivers Conference girls golf match Tuesday at Sycamore Golf Club.

Summer West and Kayce Sims both shot 63 for the Lady Wildcats, and Erin Starkweather had a 68.

Whitko will have a road match today against Southern Wells.
