Superintendent Brett Boggs explained to the school board Monday that they had taken enrollment on the first day of school last week and again at the end of the week. He said enrollment at Akron Elementary is up 26 students from the count last February, making the new enrollment figure 382 students. The other three schools are down slightly with Mentone Elementary at 431, down 46; Tippecanoe Valley Middle School with 426, down 11; and Tippecanoe Valley High School at 584, down eight.
Boggs said Valley now has 126 non-resident students enrolled corporation-wide.
He said, “It shows that people know there are good things going on at Tippecanoe Valley Schools.”
Boggs said it is hard to get a handle on the students that are leaving and going to other schools since there are many reasons and they don’t always have an opportunity to speak with parents. Boggs did express his belief that parents and students are not leaving because they are dissatisfied.
The Akron Elementary building project should be completed by the end of the year, according to a Skillman Corp. representative. Skillman has been overseeing the project. The playground is expected to be completed by the end of September.
