LAGRANGE – Wawasee trailed host Lakeland 4-0 in the Lady Warriors’ girls soccer season opener Monday night. Over the last 20 minutes of the match Wawasee scored three times, but fell short of completing the comeback in a 4-3 loss to the Lady Lakers.
Nadia Palacios scored once for Wawasee, and Hannah Lancaster scored a pair of goals late to bring the Lady Warriors to within one.
The Lady Warriors (0-1) open their home schedule on the new turf at Warrior Field Thursday when West Noble visits. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:45 p.m.
Lady Squires Fall 1-0
NORTH MANCHESTER – Columbia City scored the only goal in a 1-0 non-conference win over host Manchester in the Lady Squires’ soccer season opener Monday.
Manchester will host Mississinewa on Wednesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Lady Tigers Roll To Season-Opening Victory
HUNTERTOWN – After falling behind 1-0 early in the match, Warsaw rolled to an 8-3 win at Carroll in the girls soccer opener for the Lady Tigers Monday night.
Abby Steffensmeier scored five goals for the Lady Tigers. Delaney Taylor had a goal and three assists, Anna Sullivan added a goal and an assist, and Brenna Buhrt had a pair of assists in the match.
The junior varsity match was won 7-0 by Carroll.
Warsaw will play in the St. Joseph Invitational Friday and Saturday in South Bend.
Triton Drops Five-Set Match To Falcons
WALKERTON – After winning the first two sets of its season-opening match, Triton dropped the next three sets to John Glenn in a 23-25, 22-25, 25-17, 25-10, 15-8 loss Monday evening at Glenn.
Nichole Sechrist had 19 kills, six blocks and three aces for the Lady Trojans. Emma Ross had 13 digs, four kills and two aces; and Hannah Wanemacher had 25 assists and 13 digs for Triton. Sydney Musilli added a pair of aces.
Triton plays again Wednesday at Mishawaka.
Lady ‘Cats Fall In Conference Golf
BUNKER HILL – Maconaquah defeated Whitko 189-234 in a Three Rivers Conference girls golf match Monday,
Bailey Wright paced Whitko with a 49. Erin Starkweather and Kayce Sims each shot 61 and Makayla Compton posted a 63.
Brianna Smitley of Maconoquah was match medalist with a 43.
Whitko will host Northfield in a TRC match at Sycamore Golf club today.
Valley Drops Two
PLYMOUTH – Tippecanoe Valley lost two girls golf matches Monday at Pretty Lake Golf Club. Bremen won twice with a score of 199, and host Plymouth posted a team score of 228 to Valley’s 291.
Bethany Johnson shot a 64 for the Lady Vikings, with Jordan Krotke and Makayla Sandbakken each shooting 67. Kelsey Shafer had a 93.
Valley (0-5) will play Wabash and host Warsaw Thursday at Stonehenge Golf Club.
