Hosted by the Kosciusko County Democrats, the “Charlottesville Solidarity Vigil” will be held on the county courthouse lawn.
“It’s a non-partisan event. Organizers reached out to me to help spread the word. We certainly support this and encourage all people – Democrats and Republicans – to attend,” said Brian Smith, Kosciusko Democratic Party chairman.
There are no set speakers, but people will “come up and speak from their heart” about what the community can do to make the community more open to diversity, he said.
Candles and matchsticks will be provided. The event will last until everyone has had their chance to speak.
“Everyone just come with an open mind. This is not a Democrat event, it’s not a Republican event. This is just an opportunity for the Warsaw area to come together,” said Smith.
A white supremacist rally Saturday spiraled into deadly violence in Virginia. A car plowed into a group of anti-racist counter-protesters, killing a 32-year-old woman.
Two Virginia state policemen were killed in a helicopter crash while monitoring the protests.
The protests began after white nationalists had assembled in Charlottesville Friday to vent their frustration against the city's plans to take down a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. Counter-protesters gathered in opposition, according to an Associated Press story.
Alt-right leader Richard Spencer and former Ku Klux Klan member David Duke were among those who attended the demonstrations.
