Moriarty Back Home At Tippecanoe Valley

Moriarty is a former Valley player himself, and he intends to right the ship.
The Vikings haven’t had a winning season since going 8-3 in 2012. Valley has won just 11 games since and also endured a number of coaching changes.
“I’ve tasted the old-school tradition here, and that feeling still echoes in the back of my head,” Moriarty said Monday, the first day teams around the state were allowed to hold official practices.
“I know that a goal of mine is to bring it back to where it was before ... maybe with a new-school look. I want the kids to understand what the green and gold means, and having kids not walk on the field. It’s a slap in the face to the kids that used to play here. So that’s why we jog everywhere, and we’re going to show hustle.
“It’s a true honor to be back home. It was a dream of mine since I was little.”
Moriarty, a former assistant coach at Seeger High School and Lafayette Central Catholic, was hired in the spring. He said the kids that are out for the team have responded well so far during the transition.
“They’ve responded pretty good,” said Moriarty. “Our offseason lifting has been good, we’ve had decent numbers ... a lot better than we’ve had the last two summers. The kids have been committed. The ones that are here work hard, they’re working through the conditioning and getting stronger and faster. I think they’re excited, and I’m excited as well.”
The Vikings open the season Aug. 18 at Bremen.
Valley will play its first home game against Culver Academies on Aug. 25 and will honor the 1992 sectional championship team.
