Yeager bogeyed the first three holes on the challenging course, but finished the 9-hole match with a 2-over 37 on the front side, including a birdie on No. 9.
Yeager’s score, along with Luke Delp’s 38, highlighted Warsaw’s four-man score of 168. Triton got 41s from Isaac Wall and Chase Butler en route to a 179.
“I told Sam when he came off the course that I was really proud of him,” said first-year Warsaw coach Rich Haddad, whose team improved to 3-0. “He started off with three straight bogeys and he really just hung in there. His game came around, and he put together a string of pars and got a late birdie to finish 2-over.
“I just told him that’s how a good golfer keeps a round going, by not panicking when you get some bogeys, and he did a great job of that.”
The rest of Warsaw’s varsity scorecard included Tommy Meier’s 44, Tim Rata’s 49 and Luke Johnson’s 50.
Haddad was happy to see the 37 and 38 at the top of the lineup, but said the team is still looking for some consistency throughout.
“It was kind of a mixed bag,” said Haddad. “We had a couple guys that shot really strong at the top of our lineup, and the guys farther down struggled a bit today.
“The spring has been a little inconsistent for us. We need to focus on getting the high numbers on some of the holes off our cards. We’re making progress, we just need to tighten up our games a little bit.”
A boost to the team’s consistency could come in the near future in the form of senior Michael Jensen, who is working his way back after shoulder surgery from a football injury.
Jensen played a rehab round, so to speak, Wednesday and shot 38.
“Michael is a senior, a three-year letter-winner, coming off shoulder surgery ... he played as an extra for us today but played really solid,” said Haddad. “He’s only played a few rounds in the last couple weeks as his shoulder is getting better, but was pretty solid today and will probably work his way back into the lineup quickly.”
To go with the 41s from Wall and Butler, Triton’s Braden Kreft carded a 44, Spencer Johnson 53 and Beau Hepler 54.
Triton’s JV team, led by Mace Eads’ 44, beat Warsaw 190-195.
Zach LaLonde and Chase Byron paced the JV Tigers with 47s.
Warsaw will be in action again Saturday in the Wawasee Invitational at South Shore in Syracuse.
