Whitko GBB Coach Bradley Steps Down

“I made this decision solely on my own, and I made this decision based on my family,” Bradley said in a statement. “I have now lived in northern Indiana for more than 10 years, while my immediate family is in central Indiana. With my parents in that retirement stage of their lives, and other family members dealing with health issues, I feel that this is the best decision for me.”
Bradley said he told his team of his decision earlier this week, and he doesn’t have a coaching position lined up.
The coach compiled a 88-55 record in six seasons leading the Lady Wildcats. Whitko went 72-28 over the last four seasons during the careers of Aly Reiff and Brianna Cumberland, the first two Lady Wildcats to finish their careers with more than 1,000 points.
Whitko won a school-record 21 games this year, but a sectional title proved elusive. The team lost in the championship game in each of the last four years.
“I feel like we accomplished a lot of great things in my six years at Whitko, and we even achieved a few things never before seen out of this program,” he said. “For example, the most wins in a season before 2011-2012 was 17, and we've averaged 18 wins per season over the last four seasons, with 21 as a high.
“While there will be several graduation losses and a lot still to be accomplished by this program, hopefully this special group of seniors have laid the foundation for a culture change that will help the younger girls strive to be even better.”
Bradley said he appreciates and respects athletic director Josh Mohr, principal John Snyder and superintendent Steve Clason for their support, adding “I would recommend the position to anyone interested in the job.”
Mohr said “this came as a shock to all of us, but we understand. His family has some health issues, and family is more important than anything that happens on the court. I’m sure when he’s ready he’ll be a head coach again, and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”
Mohr added the job will be posted in the next few days and there is no timetable for hiring a successor.
