Warsaw Boys Track Beats Wawasee, Northridge

MIDDLEBURY – Warsaw’s boys track team improved to 3-0 in Northern Lakes Conference competition with a pair of wins Thursday; 81.5-50.5 over host Northridge and 111-21 over Wawasee.
The Warriors also fell to Northridge 105-27.
The Tigers had three double winners: Kendal Miller in the 110 and 300 hurdles, Rane Kilburn in the 100 and the long jump and Zeb Hernandez in the 1,600 and 3,200. Other Warsaw winners were Tristan Larsh in the 200, Joseph Harness in the high jump and John Svinarich in the shot put. The Warsaw 4x100 relay team of Kilburn, Will McGarvey, Alijah Wade and Larsh won in 43.27 seconds.
Wawasee’s 4x800 relay team of Sam Griner, Luke Griner, Spencer Hare and Michael Hammer won in 8:27.08. Luke Griner also picked up a win in the 800 for the Warriors.
Warsaw heads to Indianapolis for the Southport Relays Saturday. Wawasee will compete in the 75th Goshen Relays Saturday.

Lady Tigers Down Fairfield
BENTON – Ella Knight and Alyssa Zellers won at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, and Warsaw won both doubles matches in straight sets to take a 4-1 win in a non-conference girls tennis match at Fairfield Thursday.
Knight won 6-2, 6-1 over Fairfield’s Atlanta Swank, and Zellers won when her opponent couldn’t finish the second set.
Collette Smith and Athena Schlitt won easily, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles over Madison Colt and Kylie Miller. Rachel Yeager and Rachel Boyle needed a first-set tiebreaker in their straight-set win at No. 2 doubles.
The Lady Tiger junior varsity won all six of its matches.
Warsaw will travel to Fort Wayne to take on Concordia today.

Lady Tigers Get NLC Win
GOSHEN – Courtney Chookie pitched a complete game and added two hits at the dish for Warsaw in its 10-5 Northern Lakes Conference win at Goshen Wednesday.
Warsaw got off to a fast start, scoring seven runs in the top of the first. The Lady RedHawks came back with a run in the fourth and four in the fifth frame to cut the Lady Tiger lead to 7-5, but didn’t draw any closer. Warsaw tacked on a run in the sixth and two in the seventh as insurance.
In the circle, Chookie struck out eight and walked one, allowing three earned runs and scattering eight hits.
Jordan McClone had two hits and scored twice for the Lady Tigers, and Abby Glass had a hit and walked twice. Adara Frey also scored twice for the visiting team.
Warsaw will travel to NLC foe Plymouth for a game at 5 p.m. today.

Valley Boys Golf Sweeps Warriors, Comets
PERU – Led by Jeremy Julian’s 41, Tippecanoe Valley notched a pair of wins Thursday. The Vikings’ score of 179 beat North Miami’s 207 and Caston’s 219.
John Young posted a 43 for the Vikings, and Cade Brouyette shot a 46. Chris Schlipper had a 49 and Austin Crill had a 60.
David Beck of North Miami had a 39 to win medalist honors.
Noah Hoffman had a 53 for the Viking junior varsity. Wyatt Hall had a 55, Bryston Canada a 60, Bryce Madeford a 61 and Billy Gillman a 77.
Valley, now 3-2 for the year, will play in Saturday’s Whitko Invitational at Sycamore Golf Club in North Manchester.

Area Postponements
Several Times-Union area high school sporting events were rained out Thursday.
Whitko’s girls tennis match with Tippecanoe Valley will now be played at 5 p.m. May 4.
Three baseball games, New Haven at Whitko, Caston at Triton and South Bend Adams at Tippecanoe Valley, were postponed but no makeup date has been announced.
