Notice is hereby given that the Town of Silver Lake, Kosciusko County, Indiana has submitted a permit application to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources for the removal of Sediment at three areas on Silver Lake pursuant to the Lake Preservation Act, IC 14-26-2. The project descriptions and locations are as follows:
Area 1 will undergo maintenance dredging by removing sediment of an average depth of 3 feet. A total of 1782 cubic yards of accumulated material will be removed resulting in a finished water depth of 4.5 feet. The sediment will be removed by mechanical or hydraulic method and transported or pumped to an upland containment disposal site for dewatering. Area 1 location is the channel between Silver Lake and North Little Lake.
Area 2 will undergo maintenance dredging by removing sediment following the natural lake bottom at an estimated depth of 3-4 feet. An estimated 656 to 874 cubic yard of accumulated material will be removed. The finished water depth will be approximately 3 feet near the shoreline,sloping away from the shoreline to 6.5 feet at the deepest. The sediment will be removed by mechanical or hydraulic method and transported or pumped to an upland containment disposal site for dewatering. Area 2 location is in the vicinity of the boat ramp and extending 75 feet North along shoreline.
Area 3 will undergo maintenance dredging by removing sediment of an average depth of 4 feet. A total of 3640 cubic yards of accumulated material will be removed resulting in a finished water depth of 5 feet. The sediment will be removed by mechanical or hydraulic method and transported or pumped to an upland containment disposal site for dewatering. Area 3 is a canal located between Eldora Dr. and Neher Rd.
Pursuant to 312 lAC 2-3-4 an informal public hearing can be requested by filing a petition with the Division of Water. The petition must conform to administrative rule of 312 lAC 2-3-4. After an approval, denial or termination is issued by the Department of Water; you may appeal the action by requesting and administrative review by the Natural Resources Commission pursuant to IC 4-21.5 and 312 lAC 3-1.
A sediment removal plan can be viewed in the office of the Clerk-Treasurer located at 604 N. Jefferson St. Silver Lake,IN 46982 or questions may be directed to the Town of Silver Lake at 260-352-2120.
