Wabash County Relay For Life April 22

NORTH MANCHESTER — Wabash County is inviting the community to join the fight against cancer in the 2017 Relay for Life.
The theme for the 2017 Relay is “Celebrating our Super Heroes,” to honor those fighting or who have fought cancer, along with their caregivers.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. April 22 at the Manchester Community Schools administration office, 404 W. Ninth St., North Manchester. Parking is available at the facility or nearby in the Manchester High School parking areas.
Opening ceremonies will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the auditorium. Guest speaker Jessica Mix, who is fighting breast cancer, is scheduled to speak.  A special lap for survivors and their caregivers will be held at the conclusion of the opening ceremonies. Survivors and their caregivers will be honored with a luncheon in the auditorium at noon.  
Relay for Life teams from the Wabash County community and Manchester University will host events, food booths and games throughout the day in the gym to raise funds.
Highlights of the 2017 event include the tug-of-war between county fire and public safety personnel at 3 p.m., scavenger hunts at noon and 5 p.m., and the Road to Recovery Race at 4:30 p.m.
A silent auction will be from 1-5 p.m. in the media center just off the walking track.  
The walking track will be indoors; team members will circle the hallways through the gym, around the Survivors Luncheon and auditorium.  
Live entertainment will be provided from eight bands and musicians including Murphy Wrecks at 2 p.m., Mykayla Cynthia Band from Manchester University at 3:30 p.m., Kim Galligan at 6:30 p.m. and Piper Tobias at 9 p.m.  All entertainment will be in the auditorium.
Remembrance ceremonies will begin at 6 p.m. with the Messages to Heaven balloon launch. The Luminaria Ceremony at 8 p.m. will include the reading of names and lighting of luminaria.
The 2017 Relay for Life North Manchester Committee includes Sonya Hammons, Kim Duchane, Judy Gump, Amy Lewis, Sarah Arney, Taylor Loshe, Carissa Fickler, Sue Howard, Sheila Hann, Helen Tester, J.P. Freeman, Brittany Hamm and Kendra Metzger.
