Lady Tigers Pull Out 3-2 Win In Girls Tennis Opener
Collette Smith and Athena Schlitt won a three-set match at No. 2 doubles, giving Warsaw a 3-2 season-opening win over Fort Wayne Canterbury in a non-conference girls tennis match Tuesday.
Ella Knight needed 13 games, one over the minimum, to win at No. 2 singles for Warsaw. Alyssa Zellers won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Lady Tigers.
The Warsaw junior varsity won seven of 10 matches for the team victory.
The Lady Tigers’ next match is Thursday at Columbia City.

TOPEKA – Taylor Mock and Courtney Larson won at No. 2 doubles for Wawasee in its 4-1 girls tennis loss at Westview in a non-conference match Tuesday.
Kabrea Rostochak and Kendra Doerr won their first set at No. 1 doubles before falling in three sets.
Westview also won six of seven junior varsity matches.
Wawasee (1-1) opens Northern Lakes Conference play Thursday at Goshen.

Lady Tiger Track Earns 2 Conference Wins
Warsaw’s girls track team opened Northern Lakes Conference competition with a pair of wins at home Tuesday. The Lady Tigers downed Northridge 98-34 and took a 113-19 win over Goshen.
The 4x800 relay team of Dayton Groninger, Allison Miller, Charlene Orr and Emma Bohnenkamper won in 10:02.17. The 4x100 relay squad of Shuntera Davis, Maygan Bellamy, Abby Curtis and Makayla Clampitt crossed first in 50.74 seconds. In the 4x400 relay, Maygan Bellamy, Angie Sanchez-Vijil, Kenzie Martz and Remi Beckham won in 4:10.78.
Curtis also won the 100 and 200. Other winners were Lauren Orr in the 1,600, Beckham in the 400, Michaela Buriff in the 300 hurdles, Sanchez-Vijil in the 800, Morgan Bruner in the high jump, Joelle Messenger in the pole vault, Kendal Menzie in the long jump and Lynae Dawson in the shot put.
Warsaw improved to 3-0 overall, and part of the team will compete in the Lafayette Jefferson Flashes Showcase on Friday. Another portion of the squad will go to Franklin Central for a meet on Friday.
Wawasee Falls To Concord
DUNLAP – Wawasee opened its Northern Lakes Conference girls track season with a 99.5-32.5 loss at Concord Tuesday.
Elizabeth Zorn won the 1,600 for the Lady Warriors, and Jada Parzygnot cleared 9-0 to win the pole vault for Wawasee. Hannah-Marie Lamle won the long jump, with Alexis Manges and Sara Pritchard finishing 1-2 in the discus.
Next up for Wawasee is an NLC meet with Goshen at Plymouth on Tuesday.
Whitko Boys Win Twice
DENVER – The Whitko boys track team opened Three Rivers Conference competition with wins over Tippecanoe Valley and host North Miami Tuesday. Valley beat North Miami as well.
Garrett Elder was a double winner for Whitko, taking the 100 and long jump. Gavin Howard won the shot put and discus.
The 4x100 relay team of Elder, Chase Meade, Alex Wilson and Dominick Moseley won, as did the 4x100 relay team of Elder, Zack Freel, Isaiah Pierce and Shad Ebbinghouse
Other winners were Wilson in the 200, Freel in the 400, Colin Bross in the 1,600, Logan Busz in the 3,200, and Ebbinghouse in the 300 hurdles.
“I was very pleased with how our guys performed tonight,” Whitko coach Ron Cherry said. “What made me happiest was their enthusiasm and energy coming back after the spring break layoff.
“Although Garrett Elder had four blue ribbons and Gavin Howard won two throwing events, I was especially pleased with our distance runners Logan Busz and Collin Bross, who each won their first varsity event tonight.”
Keith Wright won the high jump for Tippecanoe Valley, and Camden Tucker took the 800 for the Vikings. The Valley 4x800 relay team also won.
Whitko’s next meet is with visiting Rochester on Thursday. Tippecanoe Valley visits Manchester on Thursday.
Manchester Tracksters Sweep Wabash, Rochester
WABASH – Manchester’s track teams opened Three Rivers Conference competition Tuesday with wins over Rochester and host Wabash. In the boys meet, the Squires had 78-1/3 points to Rochester’s 60-1/3 and Wabash’s 15-1/3. The Lady Squires’ 81 points outdistanced Rochester’s 47 and Wabash with 33 points.
Winners for the Squires were Heath Dierks in the discus, Trey Clark in the 100, Isaiah Davis in the long jump and high jump, Jacob Burton in the 200, and Ethan Davis in the 3,200.
The 4x800 relay team of Drew Jones, Ben Reichenbach, Jake Schannep and Lance Bennett won, as did the 4x100 team of Nick Wagner, Brandon Wagoner, Burton and Clark and the 4x400 relay of Burton, Wagner, Reichenbach and Wagoner.
Lady Squire winners were Katie Barker in the 100 and 300 hurdles, Rae Bedke in the 800 and 1,600, Bailey Sewell in the discus, Tahnee Fuentes in the 100, Kaitlyn Blum in the 3200 and Gabby Brewer in the long jump.
The 4x800 relay team of Bedke, Jaelyn Webb, Fuentes and Sydney Diefenbaugh won, as did the 4x400 relay team of Fuentes, Bedke, Barker and Kara Kline.
Next up for Manchester is a TRC home meet against Tippecanoe Valley on Thursday.
Lady ‘Cats Win Big
FORT WAYNE – Andrea Snavely, Kennedy Krull and Anna Ousley had three hits each, with Shi Bradley, Ellie Snep and Kristina Slater adding two hits each in Whitko’s 20-1, five-inning win over Fort Wayne South Side Tuesday.
Whitko scored 10 runs in the third inning, added four in the third and six tallies in the fourth frame to secure the win.
Snep was the winning pitcher, and Bradley polished off the game from the circle.
The Lady Wildcats will host West Noble today.
Wawasee Softball Stays Unbeaten
COLUMBIA CITY – Wawasee’s softball team remained undefeated after its 13-8 win at Columbia City Tuesday evening.
The Lady Warrior offensive was consistent, scoring in each of the first three innings and five of seven frame overall. Wawasee held an 8-1 lead after its half of the third before the Lady Eagles scored four times in their half of the inning to make things close.
Meghan Fretz and Hannah Haines homered in the contest. Faith Swihart had a double and Ale Brito tripled as Wawasee had a dozen hits in the contest.
Next up for Wawasee (5-0) is a game at Manchester on Friday.
Lady Trojans Fall To Knox 10-3 In HNAC Opener
KNOX – Triton’s softball team lost its Hoosier North Athletic Conference opener 10-3 at Knox Tuesday evening.
Courtney Jennings had a home run among her three hits and Kate Gardner had a double and a single to pace the Lady Trojans’ seven-hit attack. Jennings scored twice and Gardner the other run for Triton.
The Lady Trojans (2-2 overall) play at Goshen on Thursday.
