MILFORD – At the Milford Town Council’s regular monthly meeting Monday, the council voted to make firefighter Scott Mast the new Milford building commissioner.
They also voted in Tom Bulger, the previous commissioner, to the position of building inspector.
Jeff O’Brien, treasurer of Chore Time Brock, presented the council with tax abatement requests for approval, which the council accepted.
Tricia Gall, Lions Club member and Milford Fest organizer, asked for permission surrounding the garage sale map of sales happening over the weekend of Milford Fest. The council approved. Residents may get their property listed on the map for $2.
Milford resident Jeremiah Senders asked the council for a letter of recommendation for the removal of a shed on his property, as well as the construction of a newer shed. Mast also needed a letter of recommendation for adding on to the back of his house. After making certain the construction would not harm any water mains or electric lines, the council gave approval to both construction projects.
The police department requested that the council adopt an amended salary ordinance. The changes would raise the town marshal’s yearly salary to $60,000 and Derek Kryder’s promotion to sergeant with a pay of $43,893.01. The council approved the ordinance.
Steven Marquart, superintendent of street and water, asked for funds to install a water valve on a town well. Marquart mentioned that the water line in question connects several properties, which means that if one property needs the well shut down, all properties connected are affected. The council approved the purchase of a water valve for $3,500.
Marquart also asked for $1,646 to purchase and install two picnic tables at Waubee Lake Park. The council approved the purchase.
Finally, Marquart announced the concession stand at the park will be open this upcoming season, giving residents the option of purchasing food right in the park.
In wastewater news, Mark Brubaker presented the council with two quotes for the purchase of a pump for the main lift station. Brubaker visited several wastewater plants in the area to see what options worked well, and then brought his recommendations on two pumps. The council chose to purchase a dry prime CD103M diesel pump.
Town Clerk Joellen Free asked for $825 to purchase a plaque for the memorial rock, which is to be placed in Waubee Lake Park. The council approved.
