HUNTINGTON – The week for Grace's softball team ended on a high note as the Lady Lancers swept Huntington.
Grace had balanced production in every area of the game, beating the Foresters 6-4 and 10-2 on the road.
With the victories, the Lady Lancers (17-16, 10-8 Crossroads League) move one game out of third place in the league standings.
A strong first inning propelled Grace in the opener. The Lady Lancers kicked off the doubleheader with five runs in the first inning.
Five of the first six Lady Lancers reached base safely in the inning. Ashley Kleinbub and Kati Gregory singled in runs in back-to-back at-bats. With two outs, Olivia Scarbrough hit a two-run single, and Michaela Lee also produced a clutch RBI single.
Huntington responded with four runs in the bottom of the second, setting up a nervy contest.
In the top of the seventh, Grace tacked on an insurance run. Abby Mozingo reached base and was bunted over to second base. Chandler Elliott then singled through the infield, and Mozingo came around to score from second for the final 6-4 scoreline.
Hannah England pitched the final 5.2 innings, allowing just two hits with two strikeouts to mute the Foresters.
Elliott batted 3-for-4, and Gregory was also 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Mozingo plated twice, and Scarbrough drove in two runs.
The second game was a run-rule victory for Grace, ending after five innings. Grace had six players record a hit in the game and seven record an RBI.
Grace scored twice in the first inning, once in the third and two more in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead.
Huntington rallied to plate twice in the bottom of the fourth, but Grace broke open the contest in the fifth.
Grace quickly loaded the bases in the top of the fifth and kept baserunners stocked for much of the inning. Hannah Herbster and Emily Bobb singled in runs, Clarissa Knight drew a bases-loaded walk, and Kleinbub was hit by a pitch with the bases juiced.
Erin Lawhon came in to pitch the final inning and got Huntington to retire 1-2-3 to complete the run-rule win.
England picked up the win from the mound, tossing four innings with two runs allowed and two hits.
Herbster was a sizzling 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Kleinbub drove in three runs. Mozingo, Knight and Lee each had a hit and two runs, and Gregory drove in two runs.
With Knight's single to the left side of the infield, Knight became the program's all-time leader in career hits. She has 261 hits currently to surpass Brooke Shell for No. 1 on the all-time list (260 hits, 2013-15).
The Lady Lancers return home on Tuesday, hosting St. Francis for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.

Knight Becomes Career Hits Leader
WINONA LAKE – Grace senior Clarissa Knight secured her spot as one of Grace’s all-time best offensive players on Saturday.
With a single in the second game against Huntington, Knight recorded her 261st career hit to take over the No. 1 spot in program history for hits.
Knight’s 261 hits surpasses the record of 260, held by Brooke Shell who played from 2013-15.
“I could not be more proud of her. It's exciting to see her succeed because of how hard she works and because she wants to succeed for her teammates,” said Grace head coach Nora Reece. “She uses softball as an act of worship. CK is an extremely selfless player and sets the tone for the rest of our team.”
Knight is batting .387 with 36 hits in 32 games. For her career, she ranks No. 1 in all-time hits and doubles (38), No. 2 in triple (18), and No. 3 in home runs (8) and stolen bases (52).
Additionally, Knight holds the single-season record for most RBIs in a season and also has the No. 2 and No. 10 spots for single-season batting average.

Grace Tracksters First At Huntington
HUNTINGTON – The men’s track and field team for Grace scored 203 points to outdistance five other squads and capture the top spot at the Huntington Invitational on Saturday.
The host Huntington finished second with 126 points. The Grace women’s team ended fifth in the meet.
The Lancers racked up points in the throwing events, grabbing three of the top four spots in  the hammer and the javelin and going 1-2-3 in the discus.
Macallister Seitz placed first in the discus (153-feet-3) and second in the hammer (158-4). Isaac Stuckey took first in the javelin (157-3) and fourth in the hammer (154-4).
Thomas Hickerson had an impressive meet, placing second in three events, including javelin (143-10), triple jump (39-6) and long jump (20-9.25). Austin Keisling came in first in the triple jump (41-7.25).
Tyler Houvener ran a personal-best 4:05.45 to win the 1500-meter run and also placed second in the 800 (1:59.72). Additionally, he ran on the winning 4x400 relay.
Sam Hall claimed the top spot in the 800 (1:58.02) and joined Houvener, Nolan Miller and Joel Zook on the 4x400 relay. Individually, Zook won the 400 (51.19), and Miller was third in the 400 hurdles (57.97).
Liz Fox was the lone winner on the women's side. She captured the 800 race with a time of 2:35.47.
Hannah Treadway placed fifth in a trio of throwing events. She tossed a PR of 136-6 in the hammer, posted a mark of 117-2 in the discus, and threw 110-6 in the javelin.
Jesse Zvers ran to a fifth-place finish in the 3000 (11:38.93).
The Lancers head to Adrian, Mich., on Thursday to compete in the Don Kleinow Invitational.

Women's Golf Opens Spring Season At USF
FORT WAYNE – Grace’s women’s golf team kicked off the spring season on Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Lancers finished seventh out of 11 teams at the St. Francis Invitational, dropping their team score by eight strokes between the rounds.
Friday’s round was played at Cherry Hill Golf Club. The Lady Lancers shot a 343 as a team, finishing ahead of fellow Crossroads League schools Indiana Wesleyan, Spring Arbor and Mt. Vernon Nazarene while sitting just one stroke behind St. Francis.
“I was really pleased with the way the girls played on Friday. Our practice time has been limited by the weather, so to come out with that as our first round of the spring is really good,” said head coach Denny Duncan. “The wind and wet ground made the course brutally difficult! Stevie and Anna were especially sharp today.”
Saturday’s round was held at Cobblestone Golf Club in Kendallville. Every team dropped their scores with near-perfect playing conditions, including the Lady Lancers, who fired a 335.
Anna Marshall led Grace with a consistent 83-83 to finish in 18th place out of 64 golfers. Stevie Luebbert’s 167 (83-84) was just one stroke behind Marshall.
Sydney Abbott carded identical rounds of 85, and Lauren Keiser showcased the biggest improvement by going 92-83. Libby Tully rounded out the team’s scorecard by finishing with a tournament total of 185.
“We shot a solid score yesterday and improved by eight strokes today. I'm extremely pleased with our performance,” Duncan said. “It's such a pleasure for me to watch this young group begin to mature. We are still all freshmen and sophomores, but they have a lot of experience. This group is going to enjoy a lot of success over the next couple of years.”
The Lady Lancers will divide their squad next week. On Thursday and Friday, half the team will compete at Brookwood Golf Club, hosted by Huntington, and on Friday/Saturday, the other half of the team will take on the Bethel Invitational at Blackthorn Golf Course.

Lancers Drop 28 Strokes At USF
FORT WAYNE – Grace’s men’s golf team demonstrated remarkable improvement between rounds at the St. Francis Invitational.
The Lancers, who finished sixth out of 10 teams, had a 329 on Friday at Autumn Ridge Golf Club. But Grace lowered its team total by 28 strokes, best in the tournament, to finish with a 301 at Cherry Hill Golf Club on Saturday.
As a team, Grace jumped up two places on the team leaderboard. The Lancers’ 301 on Saturday was the third-lowest result of the day.
Jonathan Schram led Grace’s efforts with an eighth-place showing. He had a 79 on Friday but dropped that total to 72 on Saturday, tied for the second-lowest round of the day.
Chad Spencer was second for Grace, showcasing another improvement with an 84-74. Spencer jumped 14 spots on the individual leaderboard.
Tristan Nienhuis was next for Grace with a scoreline of 81-79, and Tyler Ham carded an 85-76.
Cameron Bates was Grace’s fifth in the lineup, and Jacob Kennedy, Max Leary and Zachary Allyn also competed in the meet.
The Lancers will head to the Steven Tyler Invitational at The Moors Golf Course today before tackling the Bethel Invitational next weekend.
