Performers Announced For Summer Concerts

April 4, 2017 at 6:04 p.m.

The city of Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department on Monday announced the summer concerts at Central Park.
The city’s annual classic rock concert on June 16 will feature the sounds of two of the greatest rock bands of the 1970s when tribute bands celebrate the music of Journey and Fleetwood Mac.
Meanwhile, the country music concert on July 21 will feature Rodney Atkins, the city announced.
Absolute Journey and Fleetwood Mac Mania will combine for essentially two big shows at Glover Pavilion in Central Park.
The concert will start at 6:30 p.m. with Fleetwood Mac Mania, then at 8:30 p.m. Absolute Journey will take the stage.
This year’s classic rock show could be termed the “Don’t Stop” show since both bands had mega hits with titles beginning with that phrase. Journey’s best-remembered song, “Don’t Stop Believing,” has become a cult favorite and has been embraced by various professional sports teams, including the 2005 White Sox World Series champs.
Fleetwood Mac’s “Don’t Stop” (thinking about tomorrow) became a theme song for President Bill Clinton’s presidential campaigns.
This year marks the first time the parks department did not choose an original band for the rock show.
“The original bands are becoming harder and harder to find, staying within the price range from sponsors and donations,” said Sheila Wieringa, recreation director for the city.
Nevertheless, the double-header show will provide a night of hits from the ’70s and ’80s.
Other top hits by Fleetwood Mac include “Dreams” “You Make Lovin’ Fun” and “Gold Dust Woman.”
Journey enjoyed a string of hits behind the voice of Steve Perry, including, “Any Way You Want it,” “Wheel in the Sky” and “Lovin’ Touchin’ Squeezin’.”
Fleetwood Mac Mania was formerly known as Fleetwood Mix, according to its website.
Atkins, the country rocker, has had six No. 1 hits from his first three albums, including “Take A Back Road,” “It’s America” and “Cleaning This Gun (Come On In Boy),”  according to his website.
Atkins matches the talent compared to previous Warsaw country concert performers, but is still in the midst of churning out new hits, Wieringa said.
His latest hit, “Watching You,” rose up the charts last fall.
As always, the concerts are free. Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Coolers are allowed, but alcohol and pets are prohibited in the park.
Glover Pavilion is at 225 E. Fort Wayne St., just north of the Zimmer Biomet headquarters in downtown Warsaw.
