Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department detectives were contacted Wednesday by Lake City Bank officials about the use of stolen checks from The Vineyard Church, Syracuse, according to a KCSD news release.
Detectives made contact with church officials and determined, through the course of the investigation, that video surveillance identified Andrew Steven Secor, 30, Warsaw, as cashing the checks, the release states.
Officers from KCSD, Syracuse and North Webster Police Departments were able to apprehend Secor, who led them to a hotel in Syracuse. Inside the hotel room, police found Melissa Lynn Wheeler, 36, Pierceton, as well as syringes, methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia, according to the news release.
Secor was arrested and preliminarily charged with felony fraud, theft, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of syringe for the use of a legend drug.
Secor was placed on a prosecutorial hold for an outstanding warrant, the release states.
Wheeler was arrested and preliminarily charged with possession of paraphernalia, with a $600 bond.
The investigation then led detectives to 422 S. Union St., Warsaw, in search of another person wanted on a warrant.
Warsaw and KCSD officers met with Madison Chase May, 18, Warsaw, who allegedly confirmed that Jessie Lee Savant Jr., 55, Warsaw, was inside the residence but refused to exit. While at the doorway, officers saw a man attempting to flee through a window, but retreated back inside.
Savant was taken into custody on warrants for failure to appear and probation violation, and faces preliminary charges of felony fraud and forgery.
Officers contacted the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office and then entered into the dwelling and found drug paraphernalia.
Also found inside the residence was Brady Lee Shepherd, 26, Mentone, and Brian Keith Noll, 42, Warsaw.
Shepherd was determined to have active felony warrants for failure to appear and domestic battery, and his bond was set at $5,250, the release states. Noll was determined to have an active felony warrant for burglary, and his bond was set at $7,500 bond.
May was arrested and preliminarily charged with felony fraud, and his bond was set at $5,250.
KCSD detectives stated that additional charges are possible, as the investigation is on-going.
