Manchester Downs Maconaquah, 3-2
PERU – Manchester senior Heath Dierks and junior Parker Wagoner came back from a set down to win at No. 1 doubles and propel the Squires to a 3-2 win over Maconaquah in the semifinals of the Peru Sectional Wednesday evening.
The Squire duo lost a first-set tiebreaker, then won the last two sets 6-0, 6-2 to bring the Braves’ season to an end. The win also avenged a Three Rivers Conference loss to the Braves on Sept. 12.
Maconaquah claimed the first win in the match at No. 1 singles, where freshman Cole Borden blanked Squire sophomore Luke Donathan in 12 games. The Squires squared the match when sophomores Kyle Shepherd and Uria Hein beat the Braves’ Austin White and Dawson Thompson 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
The Braves then claimed the lead with a win at No. 3 singles. Spence Trick answered for Manchester with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Tyler Yoars at No. 2 singles, setting up the heroics of Dierks and Wagoner.
“I am super proud of this team and their resiliency. It says a lot of the group of young men who can bounce back against a team that had previously defeated us,” Manchester head coach Eric Screeton said. “I have to mention the performance that Spence Trick had at No. 2 singles, as he defeated a senior who beat him two weeks ago. It was a great team victory tonight.”
Manchester (5-9) will face Wabash, a 3-2 winner over Peru, for the sectional title at 5 p.m. today.

Get To Know The Team: Warsaw Captains Q&A
Earlier this week, I had the privilege of going to a Warsaw football practice and speaking with four of the team’s five captains. With so much having been written in recent weeks about their performance on the field, and rightfully so, I wanted to peel back the curtain a bit and ask them some questions about themselves. Each of the four players were asked the same eight questions. Below are each of their answers.
