Chowning compiled nine kills and a .318 attack percentage. Tevis was just as strong in the middle with a .571 attack percentage (four kills, no errors and seven attempts), as the Spartans improved to 9-5 with a straight-set 25-12, 25-18, 25-13 sweep of Indiana University – Northwest.
The impressive statistics didn’t end on the offensive end, as Tevis finished with three solo blocks and two block assists. Looking further, reigning Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly honoree Ally Roskos tallied a pair of block assists and freshman defensive specialist/libero Anna Marie Lawrie dug up 10 Redhawk attack attempts. Lawrie and freshman middle hitter Riley Patterson were also key at the back line, combining for four of the team’s seven service aces.
The Black and Gold, continuing a current span of six consecutive road matches, move back into HCAC action this weekend. The Lady Spartans take on Hanover College at 5 p.m. Saturday and Transylvania University at 2 p.m. Sunday.
