Competing in the 18-team regional at Cobblestone Golf Course in Kendallville, the Lady Tigers carded a four-person score of 378.
While they finished 13th out of the 18 teams, the Lady Tigers tied their best 18-hole team score of the season.
A year ago in coach Tad Nieter’s first season, Warsaw had just one competitor at the regional level – Madi Graham.
Nieter has talked often about what he calls “the process.”
Having the entire team qualify for the regional this year, and then to tie their best score of the season while playing on the big stage was definitely a positive for the Lady Tigers.
“The front nine, we got off to a pretty rough start, which has been our M.O.,” said Nieter. “They came back and did an awesome job. I’m really proud of how they went about it.”
Nieter went on to say that his team’s focus Saturday was itself.
“Our whole thing has been ‘let’s block out everybody else and worry about us,’” he said. “Our goal this year hasn’t been about beating people, wins or losses, it’s been about the process, making progress throughout the whole year. They did an awesome job all year.”
Graham led Warsaw Saturday with a 90, while Page Desenberg and Delaney Wihebrink carded 93s. Twins Madelyn and Izzy Ray finished at 102 and 103, respectively.
“Overall, I have no complaints,” said Nieter. “I’m really proud of how they went about it today. I’m ecstatic for the girls. It’s a great stepping stone for the younger girls.”
The top three teams, as well as the top five individuals not on an advancing team, qualified for the state finals, which will be played Friday and Saturday at Prairie View Golf Course in Carmel.
Wawasee finished 11th out of 18 teams Saturday with a score of 372, while Manchester was 14th at 387.
Madison Beaman led the Lady Warriors with an 86, while Aubrey Schmeltz carded an 88.
The rest of Wawasee’s lineup included Jadison Rostochak (98), Lesley Tayagua (100) and Zoe White (104).
Manchester was playing in the regional after scoring its first sectional championship since 1973.
The Lady Squires were led at Cobblestone by Karly Eichenauer’s 94. Lydia Little and Kelsey Eichenauer shot 97s, while Samantha Kissel and Madyson Ulrey finished at 99 and 102, respectively.
“We struggled to adjust early to the course and our pairing,” said Manchester coach Josh Troyer. “I am proud of the how the girls battled and hung in there. We have a lot of work to do this offseason, but we are moving in the right direction to compete at this level.”
Homestead won the team title with a 308, while Penn (315) and Bishop Dwenger (325) also advanced to the state finals.
NorthWood finished fourth at 335, followed in the top 10 by Leo (340), Bellmont (349), Carroll (351), Concord (354), DeKalb (354) and Northridge (356).
Norwell’s Amber Nelson was the medalist with a 3-under par 68.
Others advancing to state as individuals include Southwood’s Dayna Dale (73), Rochester’s Kinley Lingenfelter (74), Northridge’s Bradyn O’Dell (74) and Leo’s Brooke Moser (74).
