Jack Nelson Powell, 87, Warsaw, passed away Sept. 22, 2016, at his home.
He was born Dec. 9, 1928, in Clunette, to Graydon and Mildred Miller Powell. On April 18, 1948, in Atwood, he married Virginia May Smith, who preceded him in death in 2014. They had been married 66 years.
He was a 1946 graduate of Atwood High School and a lifetime resident of Clunette. He and his wife owned and operated the Clunette General Store for many years. Later, he operated Powell Building Service, constructing and remodeling many homes around the area. He retired in 2010.
He was also an accomplished inventor, artist, sign painter, craftsman, mechanic, pilot, square dance caller, race car owner and musician. No matter what he was doing, he was always focused on developing a system to make the task simpler.
Surviving are two sons, Michael (and spouse Joan), Cincinnati, and Douglas (and spouse Deborah) Powell, Warsaw; a grandson, Andy (and spouse Kate) Powell and great-grandchildren, Jack, Ben and Ellie, Cincinnati; a granddaughter, Kate (and spouse Justin) Hickey and great-grandchildren Seth, Ryan and Gus, Columbus, Ohio; and grandson, Kevin (and spouse Melanie) Powell and great-grandchildren, Carson and Callie, Jasper; and a brother, Fred (and spouse Nancy) Powell, Clunette. He was preceded by his parents, Graydon and Mildred Powell, and a sister, Ida Labelle Wray.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Oct. 29 at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan St., Warsaw, with Pastor Denny Bollenbacher, New Beginnings Community Church, Atwood, officiating. Burial will be in Leesburg Cemetery.
Calling will precede the services from 10 to 11 a.m.
