HS Roundup: Warsaw Girls 8th, Tigers 13th At Culver Acad. Invite

CULVER – Warsaw’s girls finished eighth in the elite race, and Zeb Hernandez was fourth overall in the boys elite race at the Culver  Academies Invitational Saturday. The Tiger boys team finished 13th in its race.
Wawasee’s boys finished 11th in the open division (large schools). Spencer Hare placed 11th in 16:55 to pace the Warriors.
Elizabeth Zorn finished sixth and McKenzie Smith 10th for the Lady Warriors, leading them to an 11th-place finish in the large school division.
Triton’s boys were 14th among small schools, with Bailey Watkins finishing  in 18:32, good for 32nd overall.
Manchester’s girls, running without star senior Rae Bedke, finished fifth in the small school division. Triton was 14th.
Warsaw and Wawasee will run in the Northern Lakes Conference meet Saturday at Ox Bow Park in Dunlap. Manchester runs in the Three Rivers Conference race at Tippecanoe Valley on Saturday. Triton will take on LaVille at Winamac Tuesday in a Hoosier North Athletic Conference race.

Two Lady Wildcats Finish In Top 15 At New Haven
FORT WAYNE – Whitko’s Sarah Walters finished 11th and Hanna Yohe was 15th to lead the Lady Wildcats to a ninth-place finish in the Class A girls race in the New Haven Invitational on the IPFW campus Saturday.
The Wildcat boys didn’t have enough runners to record a team score. Logan Busz finished 39th and Zack Freel was 57th in the race.
Tippecanoe Valley competed in the Class AA race, with the Lady Vikings finishing 18th and the boys team 19th overall.
Whitko is back in action Tuesday as it hosts Northfield and Lakeland Christian at Whitko Middle School. Tippecanoe Valley begins its postseason Saturday, hosting the Three Rivers Conference meet.

Warsaw 2nd, Wawasee 8th In NLC Tourney
Top-seeded Hayden Steger and Spencer Britton won a Northern Lakes Conference boys tennis title for Warsaw after they beat Freddy Buckingham and Jake Lovette 7-6 (11-9) 6-2 at No. 2 doubles Saturday. Concord won the team title, with Warsaw taking second and Wawasee finishing last.
When the regular season and tournament results were combined, Wawasee finished seventh overall.
Warsaw’s Andrew Gauger was third at No. 2 singles after his 7-5, 6-4 win over Hugh Birky of Goshen. Nate Haines of Wawasee was seventh after his 6-0, 6-0 win over Elkhart Memorial’s Mike Troyer.
David Homme was third at No. 3 singles for Warsaw, beating Zach Moser of Plymouth 7-5, 6-2 for the award. Wawasee’s Nathan Perek was sixth after dropping the fifth-place match with Northridge’s Gabe Rodino.
Warsaw’s Justin Stout and Ryan Wettschurack took third at No. 1 doubles after their 6-0, 6-3 win over Travis and Nathan Hermon of Concord.
Colton Lind finished fifth with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Goshen’s Jacob Grewe at No. 1 singles. Dylan Staley was seventh with a 6-0,6-1 win over Elkhart Memorial’s Brandon Bailey.
Wawasee will play in the Wawasee Sectional beginning Wednesday. Pairings are expected to be announced today.

Squires Beat Peru
PERU – Manchester moved to 4-0 in the Three Rivers Conference and 7-3-1 overall after its 5-0 boys soccer win at Peru Saturday.
Noah Terrill, Harley Kruschwitz. Nathan Self, Kruschwitz each had goals for the Squires. Manchester’s defense held the host Tigers without a shot on goal.
The Squires travel to Maconaquah for a TRC match today.
