HS Roundup: Whitko Runners Finish 1-2 In Races Against Rochester

LARWILL – Whitko freshman Sarah Walters and senior Hanna Yohe finished 1-2 in a girls cross country race Wednesday at Whitko Middle School, but Rochester earned the Three Rivers Conference win, 25-33, over the Lady Wildcats.
Walters, fellow freshman Amanda Leppek, and exchange student Manon Sonneville all set personal-best times, while Yohe, sophomore Elizabeth Foutz, and junior Angel Moyer all set season-best times.
On the boys side, Whitko wasn’t able to field a full team. Logan Busz and Zack Freel took the top two places in the race. Ezra Miller was fourth.
The Lady Cats are back in action this Saturday in the New Haven Invitational on the IPFW campus.

Whitko Tennis Swept
WABASH – Forfeiting one match due to injury, Whitko’s boys tennis team suffered a 5-0 sweep at Wabash in Three Rivers Conference play Wednesday.
The Wildcats will travel to Churubusco for a non-conference match on Monday.

Whitko Soccer Teams Blanked At Eastbrook
MARION – Whitko’s two soccer teams played scoreless first halves before yielding goals in the final 40 minutes of their matches at Eastbrook Wednesday. The results were the Lady Wildcats falling 4-0 and the boys team dropping a 3-0 decision.
The boys close out the regular season at Prairie Heights Tuesday. The Lady Wildcats finish their season hosting Columbia City Wednesday.

Several Trojans Advance
KNOX – Mace Eads, Carter Kuntz, Keygan Mosier and Chase Butler advanced to the finals of the Hoosier North Athletic Conference boys tennis tournament with wins in the opening round Wednesday.
Eads beat Bohen Stayrook of North Judson in straight sets at No. 1 singles. Kuntz beat North Judson’s Briker Stayrook 6-1, 6-1 to advance at No. 3 singles.
Mosier and Butler will play for the No. 1 doubles championship after a straight set win.
The championship matches are today.

Lady Squires Blank Maconaquah, 5-0
NORTH MANCHESTER – Carsyn Howard and Elizabeth Anguilm had two goals each in Manchester’s 5-0 Three Rivers conference girls soccer win over visiting Maconaquah Wednesday evening.
Anguilm assisted on Howard’s second goal before scoring the last two goals of the match. Lotte VanderVen scored Manchester’s third goal.
The Lady Squires are off until Sept. 28 when they travel to Peru to close out TRC play.
