COLUMBIA CITY – Jackie D. “Jack” Ulshafer, 76, South Whitley, died at 1:50 p.m. Sept. 12, 2016, at his home.
He was born Nov. 4, 1939, in South Whitley, to Edward Wayne and J. Eloise Sweeney Ulshafer Sr. While living in Stockton, Calif., on March 11, 1961, he married Kathleen Paseka, who died Feb. 13, 2009.
He graduated from South Whitley High School in 1957. On Oct. 26, 1960, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged in April 1967.  
In 1965 he returned to Indiana. He moved to South Whitley in 1972.
In 1968 he began his 30-year employment with ITT Aerospace, retiring May 4, 1999. He actively participated in the ITT golf and bowling leagues.
He was a former member of American Legion Posts in Warsaw and Columbia City. He thoroughly enjoyed following his grandchildren in their sporting events.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Teresa (and spouse Rick) Cokl, South Whitley; eight grandchildren: Janelle (and spouse Nathan) Rhoades, Laura (and spouse Eric) English, KayLynn Keirn; Riley and Garrett Cokl; and Gavin, Devin and Grayson Ulshafer and their mother, Amanda; a great-grandson, Luke; three brothers and a sister: Edward (and spouse Marilyn) Ulshafer Jr., Fort Wayne; Loretta (and spouse Ted) Easterday, Terry Ulshafer and Tom Ulshafer, all of South Whitley; and two sisters-in-law: Cindy Cole, Warsaw, and Phyllis Ulshafer, Augusta, Kan.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded by a son, Jeffrey Ulshafer; two daughters, Melissa “Missy” and Cynthia “Cindy” Ulshafer; and two brothers: Ben and Jim Ulshafer.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. Burial with military honors will be in South Whitley Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
