NORTH WEBSTER – Douglas M. “Red” Barnett, 80, North Webster, passed away at 6:59 p.m. Sept. 8, 2016, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne.
He was born July 9, 1936, in Bartley, W.Va., to Zell and Lillian Spears Barnett. On Jan. 2, 1954, in Columbia City, he married Audrey Cox, who survives in North Webster.
He grew up in West Virginia, attended public schools in War, W.Va., and moved to the North Webster area in 1950 from Bartley. He was a United States Army veteran.
He retired in 2001 from Fairmont Homes, Nappanee, after 15 years as a forklift driver. He formerly worked at Commodore Homes, Liberty Homes and Regent Homes, all in Syracuse.
He was a member of American Legion Post 484, Millersburg, and a former member of VFW Post 1382, Syracuse. He was a longtime umpire for the youth baseball leagues in North Webster.
He also is survived by a daughter, Jan (and spouse Dave) Moore, Syracuse; a son, Marc Barnett, Denham Springs, La.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Roger Barnett, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; and three half sisters: Phyllis (and spouse Richard) Stark, South Whitley; Sandra Beeler, Muncie; and Linda Ramsey, Middletown. He was preceded by his parents; a great-grandson, Quentin Moore; a sister, Pat Brower; and a half brother, Bill Davidson.
A memorial service will be at noon Saturday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Ind. 13 and CR 500N, North Webster, with Pastor Brad Cox of Wawasee Lakeside Chapel officiating. Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. Ind. 15, Warsaw. Burial will be in the Mock Addition of North Webster Cemetery.
Calling is from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at  the funeral home.
