He was born Dec. 3, 1928, in Connersville, to Clyde Goldy and Louise Violet Guthrie Goldy Phillips Smith. On June 22, 1947, he married Harriet “Terri” Louise Wilder Scott, who preceded him in death Jan. 25, 2012. They shared 64 years of marriage.
He attended high school in Mitchell and as an adult attended Ivy Tech Community College. He prided himself on always being gainfully employed. His jobs included being a bowling pin setter as a young boy, then later he was “brewmeister” for 7-Up. He worked for many years as a draftsman for Cole & Associates in South Bend. He also worked as a security guard at Torrington and then Scottsdale Mall in South Bend.
He was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 17 years. He was a member of Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Warsaw.
He had a true vagabond spirit. He and his wife enjoyed a variety of cruises and vacations as well as spending much time at a condominium in Florida with their children and grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by his children: a son: Michael (and wife Evelyn) Scott, Warsaw; three daughters: Julie (and husband Gary) Bowers, Warsaw; Janet (and husband Stan) Zeck, Chesterton; Jennifer Scott, Elkhart; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and looked forward to his 25th great-grandchild in November. He also was preceded in death by his parents and an infant great-granddaughter, Megan Scott.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Warsaw, with The Rev. Dr. Erik Ohman officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw.
