WINONA LAKE – Grace College’s women’s tennis team blew by Trine 9-0 on Wednesday at the Miller Athletic Complex.
The Lady Lancers (3-2) were close to perfection in singles play in a dominant display against the Thunder (0-1).
Natalia Kurkova and Carrie Copeland were 6-0, 6-0 winners at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively.
Jenna Jackson at No. 3 singles and Gabrielle Lawrence at No. 4 only dropped one game. Jayna Huber won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5, and Rachel Smith earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles to cap off an impressive singles day for Grace.
At the top doubles spot, Kurkova and Jackson teamed up for an 8-1 victory. Copeland and Lawrence claimed an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles, and Mariah Lewis and Caroline Cassidy earned an 8-3 win at No. 3.
“It was great to see the girls step up and compete tonight. I thought this was easily the best we’ve come out of the gates, and it carried over into singles play,” said Grace head coach Scott Moore. “We are excited to ride this momentum into a big match on Saturday.”
The Lady Lancers will head to Fort Wayne Saturday for a 3 p.m. match against Crossroads League foe St. Francis.
