Fort Wayne Events Have Several Warsaw Connections

September 8, 2016 at 5:42 p.m.

A military appreciation concert and dinner Friday in Fort Wayne is coming together with the help of numerous folks from Warsaw.
The dinner and concert comes ahead of a weekend air show at the The Fort Wayne Air National Guard Base.
Friday’s event will feature Jason Michael Carroll, a national recording artist who also happens to be performing Oct. 1 in Warsaw for Kosciusko County’s state bicentennial festivities.
Other entertainment at Friday’s dinner will include No Fun Intended and Jennifer Wrinkle.
“It’s going to be somewhat of a crossroads concert where rock meets country,” said Mike Loher, a Warsaw man who works for G&G Hauling and has a background in concert promotion.
Anybody with a military ID card and their immediate family are welcome to Friday’s dinner and concert, Loher said.
The show also will include Rosemary Parsons, formerly of the Warsaw-area Dancing Grannies, who will perform “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.”
The evening will include a nighttime aerial pyrobatic show.
Behind the scenes, much of the staging and security staff is coming from the same groups that have worked numerous concerts and activities in Kosciusko County, Loher said.
Much of that volunteer staffing originated through Tecomet, the orthopedic supply company formerly known as Symmetry Medical, that often helped sponsor concerts at the county fairgrounds.
“They just kind of fell in love with it, doing the work and helping out different causes,” Loher said of the volunteer staff.
Loher, a former fairgrounds board member who has helped organize musical events including A Day At The Lake Country concert at Central Park, is the common connection in all of this.
Loher said representatives from the base reached out to him after learning of his work on other projects and that he had a role in the 2012 air show.
“It’s just really cool to see everybody come together, not only for our community, and help with this,” he said.
The air show is free and will feature the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.
The 9/11 traveling memorial also will be on display at the air show, adding poignant timing as the nation remembers the 15th anniversary of the terror attacks on Sunday.
Air show spectators will be shuttled to the air base from Headwaters Park. Shuttles will run continuously.
They’ll also have to pass through security.
Saturday and Sunday’s events run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m .
The air base is adjacent to the Fort Wayne International Airport.
