High School Roundup: Valley Tennis Downs Triton

AKRON – Sweeping both doubles matches and winning two of three in singles, the Tippecanoe Valley’s boys tennis team beat visiting Triton 4-1 Tuesday.
Valley’s Keith Wright won his match in three sets, including a down-to-the-wire third set, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5. over Mace Eads at No. 1 singles. Seth Hoffman won at No, 2 singles without dropping a game.
Dakota Parker and Garrett Feldman won in straight sets at No. 1 doubles, as did Dylan Sponseller and Chris Schlipper at No. 2 doubles.
Carter Kantz earned Triton’s lone victory, dropping just one game at No. 3 singles.
Valley travels to Cass for a non-conference match Thursday, and Triton hosts South Bend Riley today.

Tiger Tennis Wins 3-2
MIDDLEBURY – Visiting Warsaw earned wins in both doubles matches and at No. 3 singles to knock off Northridge 3-2 in Northern Lakes Conference boys tennis Tuesday.
The Tigers’ David Homme clinched the win for Warsaw with a three-set, come-from-behind win 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 over Northridge’s Gabe Rodino at No. 3 singles. Ryan Wettschurack and Hayde Steger won in straight sets at No. 1 doubles, as did Justin Stout and Spencer Britton at No. 2 doubles.
Warsaw’s junior varsity won all seven of the matches over Northridge.
The Tigers are back in action today, hosting Homestead at 5 p.m.

Wawasee (6-5 overall, 0-3 NLC) will travel to Middlebury to take on Northridge Thursday.
Lady ‘Cats Edged by Southwood
NORTH MANCHESTER – Southwood’s girls golf team edged Whitko 231-233 in Three Rivers Conference play Tuesday afternoon.
Kennedy Krull had the low score for Whitko, shooting a 54. Claire Reiff and Holly Hathaway both shot 56, and Bailey Wright scored a 67.
Next up for Whitko is the TRC tournament at Norwood Golf club in Huntington Saturday.
Whitko Shut Out At Peru
PERU – Whitko’s tennis team fell 5-0 to Peru in Three Rivers Conference play Thursday night.
The Wildcats (0-7) host Manchester Thursday night.
Wawasee Beats Fairfield, Elkhart Central
SYRACUSE – Senior Madison Beaman was the medalist with a 42, and classmate Aubrey Schmeltz had a 43 to lead Wawasee (184) over Elkhart Central (195) and Fairfield (204) Tuesday at Maxwelton Golf Club.
Jadison Rostochak posted a 46. with Zoe White adding a 56 and Lesley Tayagua a 58 for Wawasee. Kabrea Rostochak had a 59 and Valerie Haessig a 66 at the junior varisty level.
“We played well; 184 at home is good,” said Wawasee head coach Steve Coverstone. “We have to be able to do that on the road.”
Next up for Wawasee (11-7) is a home match with Fremont on Thursday.
Lady Vikes Go 1-2 In 4-Way Match
MIDDLEBURY – Tippecanoe Valley’s Victoria Biddle shot a 48, and Makayla Sandbakken had a 53 as the Lady Vikings won one and lost two matches Thursday. Host Northridge had a team score of 185 to John Glenn’s 200, Valley’s 217 and Westview’s 243.
Blake McBrier and Bethany Johnson each shot 58, and Jordan Krotke had an 81 for Valley.
On the junior varisty level, Jade VanMeter had a 56, Brianna McBrier a 65 and Kelsey Shafer a 69 for Valley.
Valley (6-13) will take on Three Rivers Conference teams Maconaquah and North Miami at Peru Municipal Golf Course Thursday.
Lady Wildcats Earn TRC Volleyball Win 3-0 At PeruPERU – Visiting Whitko earned a 25-13, 25-10, 25-20 sweep at Peru Tuesday night in a Three Rivers Conference volleyball match.
Haley Yohe had 36 assists for the Lady Wildcats. Kristina Slater had 14 digs and a pair of service aces. Kaity Reed added 16 kills and 10 digs in the match.
Now 9-3 overall and 1-1 in the TRC, Whitko will host Manchester in a conference match on Thursday.
LCA Beats Community Baptist in 5 Sets
SOUTH BEND – Lakeland Christian Academy got 10 aces from Sydney Hobbs, 13 assists from Kyla Kohler and eight kills from Carlie Wise in its 25-13, 25-9, 21-25, 21-25, 15-7 volleyball win at Community Baptist Christian School Tuesday.
The Lady Cougar junior varsity fell in two sets, 25-17, 25-16.
Lakeland Christian returns to action Saturday when it hosts Cornerstone Christian at 6 p.m.
Triton VB Swept
NORTH JUDSON – Hannah Wanemacher had 21 assists and Courtney Jennings had eight kills in Triton’s 25-23, 25-21, 25-20 loss at North Judson in a Hoosier North Athletic Conference volleyball match Tuesday.
Quinn Downing had 11 digs and Tyana Spencer had 3 aces for the Lady Trojans.
The Lady Trojans (6-3) host Tippecanoe Valley Thursday.
Lady Squires Fall In 1st Road Match
COLUMBIA CITY – Cierra Carter had nine kills and 16 assists for Manchester in its 25-16, 25-18, 25-20 loss at Columbia City Tuesday. The non-conference matchup was the first road trip for the Lady Squires this season.
Kendra Auler had 17 assists for the Lady Squires. Emma West had 16 digs, with Auler, West, Carter and Kennedy Rosen recording an ace each.
Next up for Manchester is a Three Rivers Conference match at Whitko on Thursday.
Lady Vikings Lose 5-Set Thriller
DENVER – Tippecanoe Valley dropped a closely-contested Three Rivers Conference volleyball match, 25-16, 13-25, 22-25, 25-18, 17-15 match at North Miami Thursday.
Hannah Jansma and Shayleigh Shriver had six aces each for Valley. Sophie Bussard had 16 kills, Abby Betten had 19 digs and Emily Peterson had 44 assists for the Lady Vikings.
Valley will play a non-conference road match Thursday in Bourbon against Triton.
Wawasee Girls XC Splits
DUNLAP – Wawase’s girls cross country team split its two meets at OxBow Park Tuesday, beating Goshen 20-40 and falling to host Concord 25-32 in Northern Lakes Conference racing.
Elizabeth Zorn and McKenzie smith finished 3-4 overall for the Lady Warriors, with Aubrey Kuhn taking sixth, Bailey Schroeder 10th, Lila Gregory 14thand katie Haines 15th.
The boys team fell 26-32 to Goshen and 21-36 to Concord. Spencer Hare and Luke Griner finshed 3-4 for Wawasee.
Next up for Wawasee is a race with NorthWood at host Northridge on Tuesday.
VALLEY SOCCER FALLS TO WARRIORS
AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley’s Harrison Vining scored on a reverse header from a corner kick by Ivan Santiago at the 34-minute mark of the Vikings’ 3-1 loss to visiting North Miami in Three Rivers Conference boys soccer Tuesday.
Viking goalkeeper Fabian Mar was credited with 12 saves in the match.
The Valley junior varsity lost a shortened match 8-0 to the Warriors.
The Vikings fell to 0-2 in the TRC, and 2-5 overall, and will host Rochester in another conference match on Sept. 14.
CULVER ACADEMIES DOWNS TRITON XC
TIPPECANOE – Visiting Culver Academies won both the boys and girls dual cross country meets over Triton on Tuesday; 15-50 on the boys side and 19-42 over the Lady Trojans.
Shaun Honeycut was the top finisher for Triton, convering the course at Potawatomi Wildlife Park in 20:38. Rusty Richard came in at 21:24, Bailey Watkins at 21:38, Michael Perea at 21:39, and Josiah Page in 22:44.
On the girls side, Whytale Miller was second overall in 24:03. Aimee Gladieux was seventh in 26:13. Briana Wilhite covered the course in 27 minutes flat, Abigail Powell in 27:49 and Michaela Best in 28:33.
Next up for the Triton runners is the Tippecanoe Valley Invitational in Akron on Saturday.
