AKRON – Jack R. Shoemaker, 74, Akron, died at 8:10 a.m. Sept. 4, 2016, at his daughter’s residence.
He was born Nov. 21, 1941, in Indianpaolis, to Russell and Nancy Bowen Shoemaker. On Jan. 16, 1971, he married Karen Montague, and they divorced 27 years later.
He was an Akron resident most of his life. He graduated from Akron High School in 1963.
He was a police officer for the town of Akron before being employed by Seal Power, Rochester, and then made the transfer to Richmond, where he retired. He had also worked for Dana, in Rochester and Richmond.
His special interests were farming and he enjoyed going to high school class reunions. His grandchildren were a huge part of his life.
Surviving are a daughter, Anna Baillieul (and spouse Greg), Rochester; a son, Rick L. Shoemaker (and companion Lisa Miller), Akron; two brothers, Robert “Bob” E. (and spouse Alice) Shoemaker, Decatur, and Jerry (and spouse Diana) Shoemaker, Akron; two sisters, Beulah Connor, Rochester, formerly of Macy, and Kathline “Kate” Smith Racer, Rochester; and eight grandchildren: Aubrey, Alexis and Avery Gates, Makaila Warner, and Kaitlin, Sage, Tatum and Greyson Shoemaker. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Russell.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Earl-Love Funeral Home, Akron. Burial will be at Akron IOOF Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
