By -
He was born July 12, 1934, at home in Etna Green, to Clarence and Bertha Metzler Stouder. On June 12, 1960, in North Webster, he married Mary Ellen Freeman, who survives.
He was born into a large family of 11 brothers and sisters and grew up in Etna Green his whole life.
He was a member of the Etna Green Church of Christ where he served as a deacon, elder and Sunday School teacher; and Bourbon American Legion Post 424. He was a graduate of Etna High School, class of 1952. After graduation he worked at Studebakers, South Bend, Orthopedic Equipment Company and finally at Biomet, retiring in 1992.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army. He played sports in high school, receiving many awards. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren excel in sports, hardly ever missing a game. He became an Eagle Scout in 1952; inducted into the Kosciusko Basketball Hall of Fame, class of 2011; he was instrumental in starting the basketball museum in Etna Green; bowling on Wednesday night leagues; and was a huge Cubs and Notre Dame fan. Other interests include playing golf with his brothers; traveling with his wife; putting together jigsaw puzzles; and he loved to be “Mr. Fixit,” fixing things and tinkering with things. He also was a maker of a “fine wine” he always served on Christmas Eve. He will be greatly missed by all.
Also surviving are a daughter, Pam (and spouse Bryan) Bidwell, Pierceton; a son, Jeff (and spouse Renee) Stouder, Bourbon; seven grandchildren: Derek Eby, Krista Howard, Matt Eby, Matt Tracy, Emily Bidwell, Lea Stouder and Josh Pranger; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Gloria (and spouse Bill) Stackhouse, Virginia; and two brothers, Dick (and spouse Janet) Stouder and Jim (and spouse Serita) Stouder, Warsaw. He was preceded in death by a son, Robbie Stouder, who died August 2016; a grandson, Caden Dallas Stouder; four brothers: Robert, Cecil, Glen and Leonard; and three sisters: Velorus, Marion and Donnabelle.
A celebration of Dallas’s life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Etna Green Church of Christ, with Pastor Jordan Ickes officiating.
Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, Bourbon.
