Investigators believe a house explosion near Claypool that left an elderly woman dead and her husband critically injured was caused by liquid propane leak combined with an “electrical event” with a fuse box, according to a release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
The explosion on Aug. 25 destroyed residence at 4678 S. CR 450?West, Claypool.
Kay Justis, 68, died in the explosion and her husband Larry Justis, 67 was taken to Parkview Hospital. She died from blunt force trauma as result of the explosion.
Larry Justis survived the blast, but suffered back injuries, according to police.
Authorities believe the explosion was accidental and that there was a “reasonable probability” that a liquid propane leak was ignited by an “electrical event” involving a fuse box in the basement, police said.
Burket/Seward Township fire, Kosciusko? County and the Indiana State Fire Marshall, investigated the explosion.
