Donald E. Chilcote, 92, Warsaw, passed away at 3:20 p.m. Oct. 24, 2016, in Lakeland Rehabilitation Center, Milford.
He was born Sept. 30, 1924, in Fort Wayne, to Eber and Almeda Prough Chilcote. He was united in marriage to Bonnie Worthman on June 1, 1946, in Fort Wayne. She preceded him in death on Dec. 3, 1987. He was united in marriage to Patricia A. Graham on Nov. 25, 1988, in Pierceton. She preceded him in death on Dec. 18, 2009.
He graduated from Elmhurst High School, class of 1942, then graduated from International College, Fort Wayne, class of 1946, then took his Army training at the University of Oregon. He served our country in the U.S. Army, 31st Infantry Division, during World War II in the South Pacific Theater, Philippines, and was also in the INR Section of Intelligence and Reconnaissance.
He worked as a field auditor for Farm Bureau for 13 years, then worked as a controller for Sun Metal, Warsaw, for 14 years. He then worked as a business manager and publisher for Light and Life Press, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of Pierceton United Methodist Church, Lions Club, Morning Optimist Club, American Legion Post 49, Warsaw, and the Alternative Living Center Advisory Board. He was the treasurer for Pierceton United Methodist Church until 2015, a tutor for Kosciusko County Literacy Society and a volunteer at the Billy Sunday Museum.
He is survived by two daughters, Tonya (and spouse Cary) Holman, Greenville, Ill., and Terri (and spouse Butch) Ritter, Syracuse; a stepdaughter, Sue (and spouse Ron) Pence, South Whitley; a stepson, Bill Graham, Fort Wayne; five grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and five nephews and nieces.
He also was preceded by his brother, Richard “Dick” Chilcote; a nephew, John Chilcote; and a great-grandson, Trace Ritter.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastor Holly White and Pastor David Arnold officiating. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 49 and VFW Post 1126, Warsaw, and the Military Funeral Honors Guard.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral chapel.
