ALBION – The Whitko volleyball team took its place in school history by winning its first sectional championship at Central Noble Saturday night.
The Lady Wildcats first took care of business in the morning semifinals, earning a 25-15, 21-25, 25-19, 25-18 win over LaVille (13-17). After dropping its first set, Central Noble came back to win its semifinal match 20-15, 25-18, 25-15, 25-16 over Prairie Heights. Whitko then swept the host Lady Cougars  25-19, 25-20, 25-19 for the title.
Senior Kaity Reed paced the Lady Wildcats with 53 kills, 39 digs and three blocks in the two matches. Senior classmate Haley Yohe recorded 85 assists and five aces. Haley Howard added five aces, Kristina Slater had a team-high 44 digs and five aces, and Brianna Tackett had 29 kills on the way to the title.
 The Lady Wildcats take a 25-12 record to a regional match at South Adams at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Berne. The Lady Starfires won their second-consecutive sectional title, and fourth overall, Saturday in Bluffton. They beat Churubusco 25-12, 25-9, 25-17 in the title match. Tickets are $7 at the door
The winner of the Whitko-South Adams match advances to take on either Rochester or Covington at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Bremen Semistate.
