John Raymond ‘Ray’ Steenhausen

CARMEL – Ray Steenhausen, formerly of Warsaw, died peacefully Oct. 13, 2016, at The Stratford, Carmel.
He was born Aug. 28, 1926, in Chicago, to Jacob “Jack” and Lillian Taylor Steenhausen. He was married to Mary Somers Steenhausen for 65 years, and she survives.
He was a graduate of the University of Illinois with degrees in chemistry and geology.
He and his family moved in 1958 to Warsaw, where he began his 35-year tenure as co-owner of Warsaw Chemical Co. Inc. An active member of the Warsaw business community, he belonged to many local civic organizations and the Knights of Columbus.
He and his wife retired to Estero, Fla., in 1992. The couple returned to Indiana in 2006 to be closer to their family.
Also surviving are a son, Jack, (and spouse Meredith) Steenhausen; four daughters, Mary Ann (and spouse Dave) Creighton, Nancy (and spouse Scott) Schmutzler, Susan (and spouse Jim) Allen and Ellen (and spouse Christopher) Clapp; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded by his daughter, Joan.
Private funeral services will be held in Carmel.
Arrangements are by Flanner and Buchanan-Zionsville.
