Extended Test Drive Lands Argos Man In Jail

Richard Ray Lafrance, 19, Argos, is facing one charge of auto theft, a level 6 felony.
Lafrance was approached by a Marshall County Sheriff’s Department deputy after a 2004 silver Cadillac he was driving ran out of his gas, according to a probable cause affidavit filed with the Kosciusko?County Prosecutor’s Office.
The deputy found that the car registration was not valid and LaFrance’s license had been suspended.
Lafrance told the deputy he left a minivan with the owner of the car as collateral so he could show the car to his grandmother, who was going to help him purchase it, according to court documents.
Police contacted the owner of the Cadillac, who lives in Kosciusko?County. The owner told police that she was selling the car, but Lafrance had not returned car after taking it for a test drive and she wanted him charged with auto theft.
The information provided did not say how long LaFrance had the car.
Marshall County is expected to file charges on Lafrance for possession of stolen property and possession of a syringe.
Lafrance was booked into the Kosciusko?County Jail Monday at 1:05 p.m. Bond was set at $5,250.
