He was born Aug. 24, 1924, in Hersey, Mich., to Herbert and Lena Haist Haist.
On Oct. 5 1946, in Hersey, he married Eva Mae Loker. She survives
He was farmer, agri-businessman and real estate agent. He owned the Agri-Center feed and grain elevator, Mentone, for 25 years.
He was a graduate of Hersey High School and attended Michigan State University. He was a 4-H leader and a Sunday school teacher. He was a member of Mentone United Methodist Church and the Mentone Lions Club. He hosted the Michigan Beef Tour and had received MSU awards for agricultural output.
Survivors include his wife, Eva Mae Haist, Mentone; a daughter, Jacalyn Haist, Mentone; two sons, Herb Haist, Mentone, and Randy Haist, Dayton, Ohio; and a granddaughter, Meredith (husband Travis Adams), Mentone.
He was preceded by a son; his parents; and a brother, Glen.
A memorial service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mentone United Methodist Church, 116 E. Main St., Mentone, with Pastor Jason Rice officiating.
A graveside service will take place at a later date in the Hersey Village Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to King Memorial Home, Mentone.
