SYRACUSE – Gretchen A. Genshaw, 82, Syracuse, passed away at 10:15 a.m. Nov. 19, 2016, at her home after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. 
She was born Aug. 16, 1934, in Kankakee, Ill., to Melvin R. and Lucy Marie Boyer Dean.
She graduated in 1952 from Kankakee High School and from nursing school in Kankakee. In October 1956, she married Ronald L. “Ron” Genshaw, who preceded her on Dec. 30, 2000. 
She retired from St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee as a registered nurse after 40 years of service. She lived most of her life in Kankakee before moving to Syracuse in October 2002.
She formerly attended St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Kankakee.
She is survived by a son, Eric Genshaw, Syracuse; and a brother, David (spouse Kathy) Dean, Littleton, Colo. She was preceded by her parents, husband, and a brother, Tom Dean. 
Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, Warsaw. 
A private memorial service will be held at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, with family burial at a later date.
