ETNA?GREEN – A report of gunshots fired in Etna Green led to the arrest of two people on numerous charges.
Phillip?Charles Stewart, 36,?South Bend, and Patrica Hanson, 31, Elkhart, were arrested Friday. Stewart was preliminary charged with felony intimidation with a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and dealing methamphetamine. A prosecutorial hold was placed on his original bond of $50,250. Hanson was arrested and preliminary charged with theft, but it was discovered she had an outstanding warrant on her for failure to appear from St. Joseph County. Both are being held in the Kosciusko County Jail, according to a news release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
KCSD deputies responded shortly before noon Friday to the 200 block of West Railroad Street, Etna Green, in response to a 911 call of a man discharging a weapon.
A deputy responded within minutes of the call and located the suspect vehicle leaving Etna Green. The officer followed the suspect vehicle northbound on ind. 19 for a substantial time with his emergency lights activated. The vehicle eventually pulled over near the area of CR 600N. Officers then took the driver, Stewart, and Hanson into custody without incident, the release states.
During the traffic stop, a 9 mm handgun was found in the vehicle, along with $600 and a small bag containing a white powdery substance. Officers lated field-tested the substance and determined it was methamphetamine.
As officers were conducting the traffic stop, other officers met with witnesses near the original incident on Railroad Street. It was then discovered that a parked vehicle near the original call had been shot into by a firearm seven times. Officers determined there had been an earlier argument at the location regarding an exchange of money. The argument had escalated and Stewart allegedly became irate and discharged his handgun before fleeing the scene.
