Connie Kauffman, Nappanee, designed the quilt pattern, and the Indiana State Quilt Guild assembled the squares. Quilter Ruby Borkholder, Bremen, worked every day except Sundays throughout February to finish the quilt by hand.
The quilt is made up of 6- by 6-inch squares that depict barns from each of Indiana's 92 counties.
The submissions came from families, clubs and historical organizations across the state, with contributors ranging in age from 10 to 90 and in skill level from beginning to expert.
Hoosiers have viewed the quilt at more than 50 public venues across the state since its completion. The touring schedule will continue into 2017.
The project, a collaboration with Indiana Landmarks and the Indiana State Quilt Guild, aims to honor Indiana's past while preserving the state's historic barns for future generations.
The quilt will be autioned off at 6 p.m. March 4 at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center in downtown Indianapolis. Proceeds will go toward the preservation of Indiana barns.
