The Side Of Right

In the months and weeks leading up to the election, Franklin Graham sounded a call to all Americans to gather at the steps of our state capitols and pray for our nation. The call went out to all, regardless of color, race, gender or political party. The common thread that brought this diverse representation together was a simple faith and belief that prayer and God could make a difference. These were not prayers that called out a specific candidate or party. It was a prayer that our government institutions would be occupied with administrations  that could honor the Godly principles and Christian liberties that made our country great from the beginning.
With the election behind us, many of the same people that prayed have since offered thanks for the outcome believing that, whether they are happy with the results or not, that it is still and obviously God’s answer. But that is quite a different thing than to suggest that God was on “somebody’s side” in this somewhat civil war of ours.
In the midst of a bitter national divide, Abraham Lincoln was cornered by a challenge to declare whose side God was on in that great conflict. Lincoln’s answer, we know very well. He simply replied, “Sir, I do not concern myself with whether God is on our side. My greatest concern is that I am on His side, for God is always on the side of right.”
Were that the guiding concern of all Americans now – can you imagine?
And for those who lament this outcome, and for those who cry; “What have you done?” Have you forgotten the only alternative? If the outcome had been different, would we cry just as much for the thousands of children waiting in line to be slaughtered in the birth canal? And as for minorities who have been mislead and frightened by the liberal left headlines, and by the voice of those who take to our streets to riot, just know that this new team of leaders is deep with men who look to God and will seek to be fair to all. It is prayer that brought them here. May we remember to pray for them all the more  going forward.
