SILVER LAKE — Singer/songwriter Joletta Sells will lead a special worship event Sunday at Silver Creek Church of God.
The service, Thanks & Giving, will begin at 6 p.m. at the church, 6504 W. CR 1300S, Silver Lake. A freewill offering will be collected for  Fellowship Missions, a homeless shelter in Warsaw.
During the service, Sells will perform some songs from her debut album,  “Short Stories.” The collection of nine original songs features Sells on vocals and the piano in the Christian Americana genre.
The Silver Lake native attended Silver Creek Church of God while growing up, and said it was the “perfect setting” to explore her musical abilities. She regularly played piano for the church and began accompanying congregational singing at age 12.
“God has blessed Joletta with an outstanding musical talent,” said Tom Craig, pastor of Silver Creek. “Combine her talent with her love for God, her enthusiasm and her genuine smile, and the result is a powerful experience when she leads worship.”
Sells also plays the guitar, organ and harmonica and has studied classical voice techniques.
She has been teaching music in the Los Angeles area since 2006 and owns a music school, Happy Mom Music. She has served as music director at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Glendale, Calif., since 2013.
Sells collaborated with Grammy- and Dove-award- winning producer Alex Hitchens on “Short Stories.” The album will be for sale after Sunday’s service.
Her music is also available on Amazon, iTunes and Spotify.
