BOURBON – Bremen used a 10-0 run to bridge the first and second quarters Tuesday and never let Triton get closer than two possessions the rest of the way in a 32-18 Lady Lion win in a non-conference basketball game between the Marshall County rivals.
The host Lady Trojans struggled mightily to get anything going on the offensive end. They made a fourth of their 32 shots, went 1 of 12 from beyond the arc and made just one trip to the free throw line in the game. Triton had two stretches of better than five minutes where it didn’t score.
“It was a struggle tonight from all over,” Triton head coach Adam Heckaman said. “We talked about it at halftime, and we talked about it afterward. We’re still trying to find a lineup; trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t. We’re still looking for it.
“We give up on things sometimes. We don’t get to the spots we need to, and when we don’t get there, obviously things aren’t open. It’s something we talked about, and they continue to not want to do it. Once we did it, I think we actually scored.”
Triton looked as if it might make a run midway through the third quarter when freshman Whytnie Miller hit a mid-range jumper, then stole a Bremen pass just past midcourt for a layup. Those four points cut the Lady Trojan Deficit to five, 20-15, but Bremen scored the next eight points to secure the win.
Bremen had a couple of stretches where it struggled to score as well. The Lady Lions didn’t have a field goal in the fourth quarter until 2:28 was left in the game, but Triton only had three points in the final period.
“We can hold teams down, but you have to score at some point, and right now we’re not finding any consistency anywhere on the floor, unfortunately. It’s something we need to get better at,” Heckaman said.
“I think our strength is in the post, and we couldn’t get the ball in the post for whatever reason. Whether we missed them or are scared to throw the ball there, I don’t know what it was, but we’re going to have to get that figured out so things will open up on the perimeter a little bit better.”
Erin Coffel led all scorers with 12 points for the 4-1 Lady Lions. Sophomore Kaitlin Bailey had six points for Triton, and Courtney Jennings had five.
Triton (1-3) will host unbeaten Plymouth Thursday.

Get To Know The Team: Warsaw Captains Q&A
Earlier this week, I had the privilege of going to a Warsaw football practice and speaking with four of the team’s five captains. With so much having been written in recent weeks about their performance on the field, and rightfully so, I wanted to peel back the curtain a bit and ask them some questions about themselves. Each of the four players were asked the same eight questions. Below are each of their answers.

Town of Claypool
