Roy L. Jeffers, 89, Mentone, died at 12:15 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, at Mason Health Care of Warsaw.
He was born Oct. 4, 1927, in Yale, Ill., to Gail and Lela Gifford Jeffers.
He owned and operated J&J Sales in Mentone for 42 years. He closed the store and retired in 2010.
He was a graduate of Knox High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947. He had been a member of the Mentone Lions Club for many years. He enjoyed playing solitaire, bowling and watching over Mentone from his chair in the front of the store. He was a Chicago Cubs fan for over 80 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Juanita Saner, Warsaw, and Mary (spouse Kevin) Leach, Larwill; two sons, Gary (spouse Mary Katherine) Jeffers, Rockville, Md., and Roger (spouse Bonnie) Jeffers, Bourbon; a sister, Betty Louise Nichols, Pierceton, 11 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Wiard, a brother, Bruce Jeffers, and his parents.
Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, at King Memorial Home, Mentone.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with Pastor Denny Bollenbacher officiating.
Burial will be at Mentone Cemetery, Mentone.
