The 2-year-old girl found murdered Friday morning  died from multiple blunt force traumatic injuries, according to the Kosciusko?County Corner’s Office.
County Coroner Tony Ciriello stated Friday afternoon that a preliminary determination into the cause of death to Adalin P. Stamper, 2, Warsaw, was completed. He said the autopsy was conducted at the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center, Fort Wayne, which concluded that Stamper died from multiple blunt force traumatic injuries.
Ciriello concluded by saying that there are still other pending laboratory results, but the cause of death was “evident.”
Kosciusko County?Sheriff’s Department detectives found the body of Stamper buried in the back yard at 1835 Sue Ave., Warsaw.
The trail to Sue Avenue began when law enforcement responded to a custody complaint at 53 EMS?C17 Lane, Warsaw, at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
Police met with Christopher Grimmett, 29, who had been babysitting Stamper, his girlfriend’s daughter.
Grimmett told police the toddler had been picked up by her maternal grandmother, according to a previous news release from KCSD. But police later discovered the grandmother was in South Bend at the time, said Sgt.?Chad Hill, public information officer for KCSD.
Grimmett took Stamper to his brother’s house on Sue Avenue to do some laundry some time Thursday, Hill said.
Law enforcement has not released many details, but it is believed an incident occurred at the residence where the toddler was killed.
Shirley Van?Dyke, a neighbor, said she had seen the girl playing in the yard earlier Thursday afternoon but didnt see anything out of the ordinary.
“I can’t believe something like that happened in this neighborhood,” she said.
Grimmett is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on a charge of murder with no bond set.
The case is still under investigation by Kosciusko County Major Crimes Task Force.
