NORTH MANCHESTER – A quartet represented Manchester University women’s soccer on the 2016 all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference teams released Tuesday.
Coach Christine Johnson’s team placed junior midfielder Courtney Hersick on the first team. Sophomore midfielder/forward Maranda Birmingham was named to the second team; junior defender Jaclyn Scialdone  took a spot on the honorable mention list; and junior midfielder Jenny Pudlo was the Spartans’ Sportsmanship team honoree.
Hersick, resuming a program run of having at least one first team selection in four of the last five seasons, wound among the conference’s statistical top five in goals (11), points (25) and shots (57). Her offensive production for the Spartans didn’t stop there, either, as she was tied for 10th in assists (three). Hersick’s double-digit goal total was the first for a Manchester University player since 2013.
Birmingham, ranking second on the team in goals (nine), points (18) and shots (41), joined her teammate in the league’s top 10 in all three categories, standing in a tie for fourth in goals, a tie for sixth in points and eighth in shots. Scialdone started in 11 of 12 matches played, aiding the defensive unit in all three of the team’s victories where MU surrendered a combined four goals in 180 minutes.
