MISHAWAKA – Wawasee senior Aubrey Schmeltz had 14 points in the Lady Warriors’ 43-32 loss at Mishawaka Marian in the girls basketball season-opening game for both schools.
After trailing by six after the first quarter, Wawasee came back to tie the game at 19 at halftime. Marian took a two-point lead in to the fourth quarter, and outscored the Lady Warriors 13-4 in the final period.
The Wawasee junior varsity handily won 67-13 over the Lady Knights.  Kiersten Beckner had 15 points and Caitlin Wortinger 12 for the Lady Warriors.
Wawasee will open the home portion of its schedule Tuesday night when Fairfield visits the Hardwood Tepee.
