The Warsaw Plan Commission approved a rezoning request from Bob Petro Monday.
City Planner Jeff Noffsinger said Petro filed a request to rezone land south of his dealership from C3 (arterial, commercial and single family residency) to C5 (special commercial zoning).
The land is located at Ind. 15N and U.S. 30 at the 2500 block of North Detroit St. and is a possible relocation spot for Wal-Mart.
The property, owned by Petro Family LLC, is approximately 56 acres.
'This ground is where Wal-Mart is proposing to locate," Noffsinger said at an earlier date.
Board members approved Petro's rezoning request and will recommend rezoning approval to the City Council.
Noffsinger said the final decision is up to the city council. He also said the council "has 90 days to act" on the recommendation and rezoning request.
Wal-Mart store manager Gary Elders said they are working with the city on traffic studies and have made some modifications requested by the city.
"Our Wal-Mart engineers are working on the final site plans with the input from the city," Elders said.
In other business, board members also granted preliminary plat approval to Bonnie Stevens for four lots on Logan Street.
"That was a four-lot subdivision," Noffsinger said.
Noffsinger said Stevens "has 12 months to come back before the board" to present the final plan. [[In-content Ad]]
